In the opening fixture, Williamsburg International FC’s Reserve squad pulled out a second straight 1-0 victory to stay in the hunt for top spot in the D2 Reserves South division, where they sit two points back of Manhattan Kickers. Striker, Danny Rivas was the hero on the day, scoring a beautiful goal off an assist from Jake Poore. It was the first defeat for Panatha Reserves since October when they began playing their First Team in Reserve matches.
Williamsburg’s First team ran off 7-0 winners against a Panatha USA side that has been pulling double shifts due to depleted numbers. Mark Gallagher and John Kaddo had a hat-trick a piece, and Noah Safian added a goal for the Doylies.
Gallagher’s first goal moved him into the top spot on Williamsburg’s all-time goal scoring chart. With a total of 79 goals in 71 appearances, he surpassed the long-standing record of club legend, Andreas Moudatsos (76 goals in 73 appearances). Gallagher has been a force in front of the net since joining Williamsburg International in 2015 from Bear FC in the UK. He now leads the club in goals and assists and has been a part of back-to-back CSL championship runs in 2015-16 (Metro 2) and 2016-17 (Metro 1), and an ENYSSA D1 Flamhaft Cup win (2017-18).
